There was some good news this week for homeowners who are planning to install solar panels on their home, as Minister for Climate, Darragh O'Brien announced that the €1800 grant, which was previously set to be cut to €1500 from January 2026, will now be maintained at €1800.

The grant was €2,100 last year, reducing to €1800 this year and was set to reduce a further €300 from January next year, however this week's announcement now reverses this cut and pledges a commitment to maintain and continue the grant.

Minister O'Brien said that 155,000 homes, farms and businesses now had rooftop panels and he wanted to keep the momentum going. “People have responded to the grants. They work and they won’t be reduced. Solar’s flying and we need to keep going” he said.

Minister O’Brien said on Monday he had given instructions for the grant not to be touched.

The grant is delivered through the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) for which Premier Solutions is an administrator. We administrate the funding through our various schemes including the BEC (Better Energy Community) and the DCB Home Energy Upgrade scheme (Defective Concrete Blocks). We welcome this announcement and are delighted to be able to continue providing this grant to the hundreds of homeowners we work for across Donegal. We're seeing more and more homeowners installing solar panels on their homes and getting great benefit from them in terms of energy efficiency, lower bills and more comfort. The commitment to this funding will see a continued increase in this trend. For DCB (MICA) homeowners, this announcement is especially positive. Many families rebuilding their homes already face major financial strain and the decision to maintain the full €1,800 Solar PV grant ensures they can still access this vital funding to future-proof their homes and reduce long-term electricity costs. Overall the decision reflects the Government's ongoing commitment to a more sustainable Ireland and a national move away from fossil fuels, a direction we are proud to support every day through the energy upgrades we deliver across Donegal.
